The difference between aerospace aluminum alloy and common aluminum alloy

Aerospace aluminum is a kind of super high strength wrought aluminum alloy, which is widely used in aviation industry. The utility model has the advantages of good mechanical property and processing property, good plasticity after solid solution treatment, good strengthening effect of heat treatment, high strength and toughness at 150 DEG C (or even higher), and is an ideal structural material.
Compared with common aluminum alloy, aerospace aluminum alloy has higher requirements on strength, hardness, toughness, fatigue resistance and ductility. Because of the light quality and light weight effect of aviation aluminum, it has replaced the steel and occupied the leading position of aviation material. Aviation equipment has higher requirements for aluminum, and aluminum is an important high-end application market.

There are many kinds of aluminum alloys used on airplanes. The aircraft structure of the world with Aluminum Alloy is mainly high strength of 2000 series (2024, 2017, 2A12) and ultra high strength 7000 series (7075, 7475, 7050, 7A04), there are also some 5000 series (5A06, 5052, 5086) and 6000 series (6061, 6082) and a few other series of aluminum.
Aerospace aluminum is mainly used in the wing skin, wing stringer, spar upper and lower edge, web, fuselage stringers, seat rails, keel beam, side frame, the lower part of the fuselage, the fuselage skin panels, flooring and other parts of the main beam.
1.    Hard aluminum: aluminum magnesium alloy. The most widely used aluminum alloy in aviation industry. Commonly used 2024, 2A12, 2017A, strength, toughness, good fatigue resistance, good plasticity. Used to make skins, frames, ribs, etc.
2.    Super hard aluminum: aluminum zinc magnesium copper alloy. Commonly used 7075, 7A09, strength limit and yield strength is high, bear the load is large, used to make the wing wing skin, beam, etc.
3.    Rust proof aluminum alloy: commonly used aluminum magnesium alloy 5A02, 5A06, 5B05. It has high corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, good plasticity and weldability. Used to make mailboxes, pipes, etc.
4.    Forging aluminum alloy, commonly used 6A02, high hardness, and good corrosion resistance. To make manufacturing engine parts, connectors, etc.
5.    Casting aluminum alloy, the proportion of small, corrosion resistance, high heat resistance, manufacturing engine casing, etc.
